Commission disputes are a design problem

Commission arguments look like disagreements about rates. They are usually disagreements about evidence. Two people are describing the same month from different records, and neither record shows its working.

Spreadsheets forget

A spreadsheet stores the answer, not the reasoning. A rate changed mid-month. A refund clawed back a service from six weeks ago. An assistant split applied to some appointments and not others. None of that survives in the cell, and by the time anyone asks, the formula has already been edited.

Store the calculation, not just the result

Every commission event should record the version of the rule that produced it and a readable breakdown. Service revenue after discount, base rate, bonus, split, deduction, final amount. Months later that statement can be reproduced exactly, because the inputs and the rule version are both preserved.

The practical effect is not better accuracy. It is fewer conversations. When the number explains itself, most disputes end before they start.
